Mets and Astros are “engaged” in trade discussions

Recent reports are indicating that the Astro’s have a strong interest in Mets reliever and on again, off again starting pitcher, Seth Lugo. This report comes from Marc Carig of The Athletic via his Twitter account.

Lugo has been an essential part to the Mets bullpen since joining the team, his versatility has proven to be effective both as a starting pitcher as well as a late inning reliever coming through in clutch situations. Lugo is a good fit for the analytical driven Houston Astro’s and would fill an immediate hole in their rotation, due to the departure of their former Ace Dallas Keuchel, who is currently seeking a big time deal on the free agent market.

Lugo ranks second in the Majors with a Average Curveball RPM of 3173 amongst all pitchers in the 2018 season. Astro’s mid-season pick up Ryan Pressly and his 3225 Average Curveball RPM ranks first. The Mets are currently doing “background work” on the Astro’s farm system.

There is no word on what the Mets may be asking for in return In this potential deal but I’d be a little hesitant to trade Lugo, not only is the man starting and bullpen depth but he’s a solid pitcher that could help any team trying to make it deep into the playoffs. Versatility isn’t an easy thing to find but it’s a lot harder to find successful versatility coming from a pitcher, since they epitomize being creatures of habit.
