The final game of the first half and the Mets have a 40-49 record going into Sunday afternoon’s game vs the Phillies. Philadelphia will end up sending the surging Aaron Nola, who’s only allowed one earned run in his last three starts, striking out 28 batters over that 23 inning stretch.
Nola is 7-2 with a 3.89 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 118 strikeouts in 104 innings pitched. He’s 2-2 over his last seven game, posting a 3.11 ERA in 46.1 innings.
Zack Wheeler will continue to have a lot of eyes on him as the Trade Deadline approaches. He’s been putting on a clinic recently as he has a 1.86 ERA over his last three starts, starts against the Cubs, Phillies, and the Yankees, three teams that can hit.
Wheeler is currently 6-5 with a 4.42 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP with 123 strikeouts in 114.0 innings pitched. Another good start against the Phillies could absolutely scale up the return for the Mets, if they do end up choosing to trade the right hander.
