In a Wednesday night pitching matchup where ice meets fire, the New York Mets are currently on a four-game skid and need to start gaining ground on the Wild Card spot before it starts getting too late. The Mets are currently three games behind the Chicago Cubs for the second Wild Card spot and every single game played from here on out needs to be playoff style baseball.
Kyle Hendricks will hit the mound for the Chicago Cubs after pitching seven shutout innings last Thursday against the Cubs, however has an ERA of 4.76 when on the road. Overall, Hendricks is 9-9 with a 3.20 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP while striking out 122 batters in 143.1 innings.
Jeff McNeil has been hitless in his last two games going 0-7, and going 2-9 since his return from the Injured List. While the it’s a small sample size, McNeil needs to turn it back on and get back to setting up the table for the rest of the Mets offense. Our “Flying Squirrel” is hitting .330/.398/.525/.923 with 32 doubles, 1 triple, 15 home runs, along with 67 runs scored and 55 RBI’s.
Noah Syndergaard will take the hill for the Mets and has absolutely owned the hill since the All-Star break. In eight starts, Syndergaard has posted a 1.82 ERA while striking out 55 in 54.1 innings pitched. Overall, Syndergaard is 9-6 with a 3.71 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 156 strikeouts in 160.0 innings.
The game will take place at Citi Field at 7:10 PM EST and will be televised locally in the Tri-State area on SNY.
