After two straight sweeps by the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs, the New York Mets look to snap a six game losing streak against a division rival, the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets have fallen 5 games back from the second Wild Card spot and while the Phillies are 2.5 games back from the same seed.

Zack Wheeler hits the hill for the Mets and while he’ll be out there looking to put an end to a bad losing streak, he’s also out there to prove his value and worth as the right hander heads into Free Agency for the first time in his career.

His last three starts have been nothing to write home about since he’s posted an ERA of 6.75 and a record of 0-1 while the opposition has reached base at a .378 clip and has produced a .894 OPS against him. For the year, Wheeler is 9-7 with an ERA of 4.52, a 1.28 WHIP while striking out 156 batters in 155.1 innings.

Aaron Nola will take the mound for the Phillies and he’s been treading in the opposite direction as Zack Wheeler. In his last 13 starts, Nola is 6-3 with a 2.27 ERA and has allowed two runs or fewer in nine of those starts. Overall, Nola is 12-4 with a 3.53 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP and has struck out 187 batters in 168.1 innings pitched.

J.D. Davis has been experiencing a bit of a rough patch since he’s been tearing the league up after the All-Star break, however it’s been encouraging to see him hit a home run in each of his last two games. The slugger has already matched the nine home runs he hit in the first half in 131 at-bats compared to his 201 first half at-bats.

Tonight’s game will be in Philadelphia’s Citizen Bank Park and first pitch will take place at 7:05 PM EST. The Mets have lost seven out of their last eight games to the Phillies.
