With the New York Mets 3.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot, the Orange & Blue had Jacob deGrom hit the mound and the Florida native continued to do what he does. It was good to see the Mets offense offer up some help with three home runs, a solo shot by McNeil, a 2-run homer by Rosario, as well as Alonso’s 50th home run of the season, a two run shot.
Surprisingly, Jacob ended up throwing 96 pitches while going seven scoreless innings in which he gave up only four hits and struck out nine while walking none. The Mets would eventually pick up the 8-1 win and now are 3.0 games out of the season Wild Card… temporarily.
The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom picked up his tenth victory of the campaign while lowering his ERA to 2.51 on the year. This win, his tenth, matches last years award winning season. deGrom has never picked up for than 15 wins in a season, which is quite frankly frustrating yet astonishing.
