On This Date in Mets History: The Miracle Begins

On this date on September 24th, 1969, the New York Mets clinched their first postseason berth by winning the National League East title after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 at Shea Stadium.

Gary Gentry threw a complete game, four-hit shutout & Donn Clendenon hit two home runs.
