A few more Mets that could hit the block

I couple of days ago I made a short list of three players that the Mets could potentially trade this winter. Now here’s a few more players that could hit the block this upcoming off-season.

Steven Matz – Matz could be a candidate to not getting tendered this winter, however if the Mets do tender the lefty, he very well could be on his way out. Corné Hogeveen wrote some options of what the Mets could do with him, but he might be better off playing for a smaller market team. I just don’t know what his trade value is at this point of his career, I’m sure there’s a team or two out there will to give him a shot at the middle of their rotation.

Jeurys Familia – Another player going into the final year of his contract, Familia pitched in 25 games and posted a 3.71 ERA. Throughout 26.2 innings, Familia struck out 23 batters but has a 1.46 WHIP. While the Mets will need as much help as they could get in the pen, Cohen may want to completely rebuild the bullpen and Familia might be the place to start.

Michael Conforto – I’d hate to see Conforto go however with the 27 year old outfielder about to enter the final year of his contract, it’s always possible to see a player in that position get traded. If the Mets do decide to part ways with Conforto, the team can slide Nimmo over to left field and either J.D. Davis or Jeff McNeil to right field. Steve Cohen could then focus on acquiring a true centerfielder. All said and done, I’ve been a big fan of his since he was drafted, so I definitely would hate to see him go.

Edwin Diaz – The right hander is looking as sharp as he did with the Seattle Mariners, and while many fans might be excited for his future with the team, it may be a good time to trade him. He’s coming off of a short season in which he owned a 1.75 ERA throughout 25.2 innings as well as recording 10 saves. So while elite closers don’t grow on trees, this may be as good as a time as any to trade Diaz.
