Mets to Attend Kluber, Paxton Throwing Sessions.

The Mets search for starting pitching is likely moving on from Sugano. The Mets have watched Paxton last month and according to Anthony DiComo, they will also attend Corey Kluber his throwing session.

Paxton is coming off an off year were he battled injuries. He battled a flexor strain in his left forearm, which limited him to 5 bad starts. Paxton pitched just 20.1 innings in which he collected a 6.64 ERA. His velo was down but he still had solid K% numbers.

Before the 2020 season, Paxton was a force when healthy. Since his debut in 2013, he has pitched to a 3.50 ERA and a 3.26 FIP. In 2019 he pitched to a 3.82 ERA over 150.2 innings. Pitching in the AL East, those are solid numbers.

Now over to Corey Kluber. We all know what Kluber was capable off being in Cleveland. However, Kluber is coming into his age 35 season and hasn’t pitched much over the last two seasons. He had pitched just 36.2 innings in those last two seasons.

Before 2019, he was one of the most dominating arms in the game. Between 2014 and 2018 he pitched to a 2.85 ERA, plus pitching well over 200 innings per season. He won two CY Young award in Cleveland were he had spend his whole career (beside 1 inning in Texas this year).

Both of these arms have a ton of risk. For Paxton it’s more of a story with his whole career, while Kluber has had issues last two seasons, while getting older. Getting an arm like Paxton or Kluber could be an option IF we include a more durable good arm as well. Plus taking a look is never a bad thing.
