MetsJunkies Predictions: Pete Alonso

Pete Alonso is coming into his third season in the Major Leagues. The power hitting first baseman will likely see some time at first and for me hopefully some time at the DH spot.

Corne Hogeveen:

Pete Alonso is coming off a so-so shortened season, but was still able to hit 16 homeruns over 57 games. He was on pace to hit over 40 homeruns and I would take that any time, any day. Pete finished the season strong, but still had a OPS of .817. We need and will get better from our big righty bat.

.251/.350/.553 with 47 Homeruns and 113 RBI’s

Gem Tablak:

It’s so tough to judge Alonso on his 2020 season. As Corné had just mentioned, the right handed slugger was on pace to hit the 40 home run mark. So it may be inaccurate to say he went through the infamous sophomore slump.

I see a .248/.355/.542 slash-line with 48 HR’s and 119 RBI’s in 566 at-bats.

Del Alba:

I’ve been following Alonso since he was tearing it up in the minors in 2018. He has a career minor league slash line of .290/.381/.560, Pete can flat out rake! Alonso went through a dreaded Sophomore slump in 2020, but he still finished amongs the league leaders in HR and lead the Mets with 16 HR. His .242 BABIP in 2020 makes me believe that he will regress. In 2019 Pete had a .280 Babip, .20 points lower than the league average,  so I think its safe to say that I can see Alonso surpass his rookie debut slash line. I expect him to put up MVP-like numbers in 2021 for an amazing Mets line-up.

.272/.382/.565 with 50 HR and 120 RBI.
