MetsJunkies Recap: Mets Power up Against O’s

The Mets bursted out of the gates early with another shot by first baseman Pete Alonso in the opening inning, a two run shot. The home run would go down as his 10th of the season as he’s slugged three home runs in the past two games against the Orioles.

Tiajuan Walker was absolutely brilliant following the disaster of a game that took place last night. Michael Garaffa had earlier pointed out that the Mets have done a great job in bouncing back in games like these.

The right-hander pitched seven innings in which he only gave up one run while walking one and striking out nine. Walker has now lowered his ERA to 2.07 on the 2021 campaign and is in the top five in regards to NL ERA.

It’s safe to say that former Mets ace Matt Harvey did not have the same luck or outcome. Harvey was chased out of the game in the third inning after giving up seven earned runs on eight hits. The New London, Connecticut native’s ERA has now ballooned up to 7.41, his days could be numbered.

Warrior of the Mets Kevin Pillar had a 3-4 night as the flashy yet hard-nosed centerfielder clubbed two home runs on the evening. The first coming off of Harvey in the third, then another coming off of reliever Mac Sceroler. Pillar now has four home runs while having also raised his batting average to .262 after tonight.

Billy McKinney joined the slugfest as the newly acquired outfielder also hit two home runs, while having driven in 5 RBI’s. McKinney has been a great addition since his arrival and it would be nice to see him remain with the team.

Tonight will go down as the 8th time in Mets franchise history that the team hit six or more home runs in a game.

The Mets are now 30-24 and will be hosting the San Diego Padres back in Citi Field on Friday evening.
