MetsJunkies Recap: Davis Struggles at Third as Mets fall to Astros

The Mets dropped to 3-3 on the Spring after the Mets lost to the Astros 2-1. The Mets pitching held up very well against a lineup that featured Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez and others. Unfortunately the defense wasn’t up to par and JD Davis struggled with 2 errors at third.

The errors cost Megill two unearned runs in his solid outing. The righty went 3.2 innings, allowing 2 (unearned) runs on 3 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 4 Astros hitters in his outing.

The relief corps behind Megill shined as they combined to pitch 5.1 scoreless frames with 0 walks and 7 strikeouts. Lefties Rob Zastryzny and Alex Claudio both pitched perfect innings. Claudio collected 2 strikeouts, while Zastryzny got one. Both are battling to make the bullpen.

Trevor May made his spring debut with a scoreless inning. The righty did allow 2 hits but also struck out 2. Adam Ottavino impressed with a perfect frame, striking out Altuve.

The Mets offense didn’t do a lot. Daniel Palka drove in the only run with a single and Jankowski kept his strong spring going with a 2 hit game. Jankowski also made a terrific diving catch in center as he tries to make the Mets bench.

Tomorrow the Mets will face the Nationals at 1.10PM as David Peterson looks to rebound.
