Per Anthony DiComo, the Mets have called up right-handed reliever Drew Smith. The Fort Worth, Texas native has yet to appear in the Majors during this 2021 season however pitched to a 6.43 ERA in 2020.
Throughout his career, Smith has posted a 1-2 record with a 4.11 ERA in 35 innings pitched. Smith was of course acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays for DH/First Baseman Lucas Duda.
In return, the Mets have decided to send down reliever Trevor Hildenberger in order to make room.
After yesterday’s debacle the Mets have send down Trevor Hildenberger to get a fresh arm in Sean Reid-Foley.
SRF has a career 4.40 ERA over 71.2 innings with the Toronto Blue Jays. The rightly was part of the Steven Matz trade when the Mets acquired him and Yennsy Diaz. In 2020 Reid-Foley pitched to a 1.35 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. The 25 year old has made 21 appearances with 13 starts, so he should be able to give the Mets length if needed.
Hildenberger struggled in yesterday’s loss with 4 runs allowed in 1.1 innings. Over his 2 appearances he allowed 4 runs in 2.1, with 4 strikeout, 3 hits and 3 walks.

The Mets put Dellin Betances on the IL with right shoulder impingement. The tall rightly pitch one inning yesterday, were he allowed one run. Betances hasn’t looked good all spring with limited velo on his pitches.
The Mets brought up Trevor Hildenberger, who had a terrific spring. The sidearming righty allowed one run in 3.1 innings of work. Of his 10 outs, 9 were strike outs.
