Is MetNews on to something with this trade proposal?

MetNews on Instagram came up with an interesting trade proposal that would involve Cleveland and phenom shortstop Francisco Lindor.

The mock trade would have Lindor going to the Mets for Amed Rosario, J.D. Davis, as well as highly touted third-base prospect Brett Baty.

Now Lindor has a little over four years of service time and has already accumulated a career a WAR at 28.4, all done as a shortstop. Not only does the soon to be 27 year old have some pop with 138 career home runs, but he also has 99 stolen bases, averaging 21 swipes every 162 games played.

With an acquisition of this caliber, the Mets might be inclined to deal defensive stud infielder Andres Gimenez, giving Lindor a grip on the shortstop position till Ronny Mauricio (Lindor 2.0?) is ready to make a crack at the bigs. However, the Mets shouldn’t feel forced to trade Gimenez, due to his team control at a low price.

I don’t mind J.D. Davis in the outfield but the slugger just isn’t cutting it at the hot corner. When in the box, Davis isn’t just a one-dimensional hitter. Although he’s slumped in 2020, he’s proven that not only can he hit the ball hard and over the fence, but he can hit the ball to all fields and maintain a decent batting average.

Rosario would obviously be an immediate replacement for Lindor in Cleveland, and while he’ll never be what Lindor was for that organization, he can be a cheaper long-term option if Cleveland decided to take the route of extending his contract.

Baty has barely had the time to get any playing time since being drafted as the 12th overall pick of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft. He’s played in a total of 51 games since being in the Mets organization, so there’s not much to go off when it comes to his numbers.

I’m not sure Cleveland would entertain this trade as is, maybe if another prospect is involved (I always say that) but it definitely caught quite a few eyes within the Mets fans community as well as mine.
