By Angelina Heather Rizzo

The Mets have had a disappointing 2020: Here’s why Marcus Stroman along with the rest of his New York Mets teammates must step up and get the job done in 2021.

Stroman opted out in 2020 due to a valid reason, COVID-19. However you may have felt regarding that, he just accepted the Mets $18.9M qualifying offer today. Here’s the news that broke today as reported by Bleacher Report.

Here’s a look at some of Stroman’s stats throughout the years.

He has a career 14.7 WAR, 51-47 record, and a career 3.76 ERA.

In 2019 with the Mets, he had a 4-2 record, a 3.77 ERA and a 1.475 WHIP. In 2019 with the Toronto Blue Jays, he had a 6-11 record, and a 2.96 ERA and a 1.227 WHIP.

In 2018, Stroman had a 4-9 record, with a 5.54 ERA with a 1.476 WHIP.

Stroman needs to prove effective and help out the struggling and needing of a rebuild pitching rotation. Ace Jacob DeGrom simply cannot be the only one bringing the heat.

Noah Syndergaard may or not be the same upon his return to action, making the importance of everyone else to be on their A game. Steven Matz has struggled and been a let down for a long time, and it makes things evident that Stroman may heavily be relied on to provide his quality start, as expected by the ever impatient Mets fans who are expecting big things with new ownership in the building.

Who’s to say Stroman isn’t capable of bringing the heat every start? Stroman is due for another solid year. He should see it happening in 2021.
